Program Description:

Early Childhood Occupations Education is a program designed for students preparing for careers involving children. Students should love children, have good communication skills, be responsible, dependable, work well independently and read to grade level. Tech I students will participate in nursery school on a rotating basis. While working in the nursery school, students will work within teams, planning and implementing activities according to a curriculum theme. Students who successfully complete Tech 1 will have completed half of the requirements for the Certified Early Childhood Associate (CECA) certificate

  • General bookkeeping
  • Oral and written communication

Activities in which students participate:

  • Individually plan and implement activities for toddlers/ preschoolers according to curriculum theme
  • Maintain nursery school financial records using Quicken system
  • Construct and complete a résumé
  • Produce a professional portfolio for CECA certification, college and/or job interviews
  • Participate in classes on work ethics, safety, child development and positive child guidance

Requirements

Recommended:

  • Good attendance
  • 8th Grade reading level
  • Basic math - Addition, subtraction, multiplication, dividing of whole numbers

Required:

  • Teacher recommendation to include reasons why this student is a good candidate for ECOE
  • Visitation to complete interview packet
