Program Description:

Early Childhood Occupations Education is a program designed for students preparing for careers involving children. Students should love children, have good communication skills, be responsible, dependable, work well independently and read to grade level. Tech II students will participate in nursery school three days per week in one semester working with 3 to 3 1/2 year olds, and they will also intern for one semester at a community based program or class appropriate to their career goal. Students who successfully complete Tech II course work and receive an 80 or higher on the National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) Exam will have the opportunity to apply for Certified Early Childhood Associate (CECA) certification.

Activities in which students participate:

  • Individually plan and implement activities for toddlers and young preschoolers according to curriculum theme
  • Maintain nursery school financial records using Quicken system
  • Construct and complete a résumé folder
  • Produce a professional portfolio for college and/or job interviews
  • Participate in classes on work ethics, safety, child development and positive child guidance
  • Participation in an off campus field site aligned with their career goal
