No Smoke and Mirrors Here, Fire Fighting Training Area takes shape…
The second phase of the Fire Fighting outdoor training area has just been completed. The first phase was to obtain two used shipping containers. The containers will be stacked upon each other with the 20 foot on top of the 40 foot container. With this training facility, Fire Fighting students will be able to practice ladder skills for 1 and 2 story rescue and attacks on the exterior. Interior skills will include; interior fire fighting attack, search and rescue and extricating patients from a second floor. Additionally, Criminal Justice students will also use the space for police tactical training.
Students from the Heavy Equipment operations program laid out the site, performed the preliminary work for proper drainage and run off. Installed the proper base material, leveled and compacted the base in preparation for the cement pad to be poured.
In the weeks to come, the containers will be placed on the pad and secured. Interior stairs will be constructed and installed along with railings for the second floor deck.
WRVC would like to thank the following sponsors and supporters for Phase 2 for their work, materials and/or donation in support of the Fire Fighting, EMT, Criminal Justice and Heavy Equipment programs.
