Gas Line Rupture
Dear families, students, and staff,
This afternoon, there was a rupture to a gas line in the lot behind WRVC. Students and staff who were in class working in the area noticed and reported this immediately. Students were evacuated from WRVC and are safe. The Westbrook Fire Department and Police Department were notified and were on site quickly. Additionally, staff, students, and construction workers on-site at WHS were evacuated as a precaution. Because it was close to dismissal time, regional and Westbrook students went back to their schools or home. Our service provider is on site repairing the leak. The building has been cleared for reentry but we are not allowing people into WRVC or WHS at this time as a precaution while the gas line is repaired. This may impact athletics; the athletic department with be in touch about practice and games scheduled for this afternoon. I will send another update with my daily email this evening.
Thank you to WRVCDirector Todd Fields and staff as well as our students for a quick, calm response to this emergency.
Peter Lancia, Superintendent of Schools
