Second year curriculum;
Computer Maintenance and Repair I
Focus is on computer repair and preventative maintenance of personal computer systems. Current Microsoft Operating System software and third party utilities (Malware, Spybot, AVG Antivirus, etc) will be used for troubleshooting and diagnosing common computer system problems. Course is designed to prepare students for the CompTIA A+ Certification exams. Lecture/lab
Computer Maintenance and Repair II
Advanced topics in Computer Repair and Maintenance including network troubleshooting and printer repair. Eligible student will be encouraged to take the CompTIA A+ Certification exam in Computer Repair in June. Prerequisite: “C” or higher in Computer Maintenance and Repair I.
Open Source Operating Systems and Applications
Just say no to Microsoft. This course will provide the student with a chance to explore an Open Source, Linux based operating system and applications. The student will develop skills in using the command line for maintenance of users, files, directories and permissions. The student will learn to create print servers, troubleshoot system problems, setup network connectivity and seamlessly integrate an Open Source server with Windows clients. This course will provide the student with online reference materials and hands-on exercises based on real world examples. There are no prerequisites. Lecture/Lab
Network and Computer Security
Learn how to provide a safe internet browsing environment for your home computer or network. This course is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to secure computers and computer networks from unauthorized access and malicious software attacks. Students will learn how to secure Linksys Wireless Routers, the basics of firewall protection and proactive use of other software and hardware security systems.
